Veterinary Technicians
Veterinary Nurses
Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital employs seven Registered Veterinary Technicians and four Veterinary Technician Assistants who are essential members of our veterinary team. They normally work behind the scenes performing more than just nursing care.
Veterinary Technicians are responsible for many things such as pre and post surgical monitoring, anesthesia and surgical assisting. They also serve as dental hygienists when your pet is in the hospital for a dental cleaning. Veterinary Technicians do a variety of other tasks such as venipuncture, radiology, IV catheter placement, monitoring hospitalized patients, administering medications, giving vaccines, trimming toe nails and many other things.
All of our Veterinary Technicians have at least a two-year degree from an accredited college and they are all registered within the state of Ohio. In order to keep their license, they all must complete 10 hours of continuing education every two years.
Veterinary Technician Assistants have many responsibilities as well that include surgical pack preparation, assisting the technicians or doctors for venipuncture or IV catheter placement, restraint, radiology and a variety of other tasks. All of our Veterinary Technician Assistants were trained on the job and some of them had some prior training in the Animal Care program at Miami Valley Career Technology Center while in high school. All of our Technician Assistants attend in clinic meetings about new information in veterinary medicine.
You can feel confident that when your pet makes the trip to the "back" for exams, blood work or other procedures, that they are in the hands of trained and caring professionals.
Here is a little background on our current veterinary technicians and assistants:
Penny Carmany
My name is Penny Carmany. I am a Registered Veterinary Technician at Twin Maples Veterinary hospital. I graduated from the Raymond
Walters Veterinary Technician program in 1996. I started working for Twin Maples in March 1996. My husband and I were married in February 1997. I have two children. Cole, born in 2001, is in first grade and Kevin, born in 2003, goes to preschool. I have two cats (Super Cat and Larry), a Bearded Dragon (George), a rabbit (Stumper), and a finch (Elvis). I enjoy working at Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital with my friends and colleagues.
Jessica Cavender
I graduated from the Vet Tech Institute (A Division of Median School of Allied Health Careers) in Pittsburgh, PA in December 2005 with an Associated Degree in Specialized Technology. I passed the Ohio State Boards in June 2006 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician. I spent a year employed as the sole technician for a single-doctor practice and enjoyed doing all aspects of patient care, but I was looking for more of a challenge in a larger practice.
I joined the team at Twin Maples in April 2007 and felt welcomed and right at home. The change to a six-doctor hospital was just the challenge I was looking for and my days are full and exciting. I have a special interest in veterinary dentistry and I am a certified Dental Technician. I also especially enjoy scrubbing in for surgeries.
Animals have always been a part of my life and a huge highlight was fulfilling my dream of swimming with dolphins. My current four-legged companions are feline Lily and my four-pound Yorkie, Kiwi who reside with me in Piqua.
Angie Fetter
My name is Angie Fetter. I am a registered technician at Twin Maples. I graduated in 2006 from the University of Cincinnati, where I received an associate degree in Veterinary Technology. I started working at Twin Maples in 2000 as a kennel attendant. After earning my degree I accepted a position as a veterinary nurse at Twin Maples. I have a strong interest in anesthesia, dentistry and laboratory work. I reside in Springboro, Ohio with my husband Andy, dog "Levi", two cats "CJ" and "Foxy".
Tina Foster
My name is Tina Foster. I have worked at Twin Maples for 3 years. I have worked in different areas starting with Kennel and working my way to pharmacy and technician assistant. I have always wanted to work with animals and I am on my way to become a veterinary nurse. I am attending Sinclair and have plans to transfer to Raymond Walters. I have a bundle of animals of my own, as well as helping Robyn's Nest Animal Rescue with fostering animals and showing them to help them find homes. I enjoy the outdoors very much from hiking to backpacking. My future plans once I become a veterinary nurse are to move out west and have a few acres of my own.
Maggie Johnson
I graduated from Columbus State University and have been a Registered Veterinary Technician since 1986. This is truly a dynamic career field for anyone interested in working with and helping our animal friends. Being a veterinary technician means that you never stop learning. Thankfully, I really enjoyed that aspect of this career. Along with the current requirements for biannual continuing education, I have also managed to complete my education in 2007 with a B.S. in Business from Wright State University. I have a special interest in finance and management. I have recently moved into the hospital manager position, but I remain connected to the treatment room where the technicians spend their days. I spend my days off with my husband, family and animal buddies enjoying any activity that allows me to be outside. I have three dogs, Vegemite, Scout and Marley.
Amber Korb
My name is Amber Korb, I attended the Miami Valley Career Technology Center in the Animal Production and Care program. I started working at Twin Maples during my senior year as a kennel attendant and veterinary assistant. I graduated from the program in 1994. I started attending Sinclair and then the University of Cincinnati. I earned a degree in Veterinary Technology in 1998. I especially enjoy surgery, anesthesia and dental cleanings.
I have been married to my husband Jeremy for a year and a half and have a 11 month old son named Austin. We have a dog Tawnie and three cats Playdo, Ben and Maggie.
Robyn McGeorge
I graduated from Raymond Walters College, University of Cincinnati in June 1994 with an associate's degree in veterinary technology. I have been working at Twin Maples since June 1994. One of my favorite aspects of my job is radiology. I am in charge of radiation safety for the hospital and enjoy the challenge of improving my radiographic skills. My true passion though is in animal rescue. In 2005 I started Robyn's Nest, Inc., a non-profit animal rescue organization for dogs, cats, rabbits, and rodents. I am currently raising money to build a facility in Preble County to house animals and be open to the public for adoptions. I spend my spare time riding my horse, hiking with my dogs, and enjoying the solitude of my home in the country.
Brande Moore
My name is Brande Moore and I am a Veterinary Assistant. I have been an assistant at Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital since March of 2000. I started working here while I was still in high school at Miami Valley Career Technology Center. I was taking the Animal Production and Care course and needed a co-op job. I was hired on and worked part time and went to school. After graduating I started working full-time. My area of interest is the surgical instrument pack area. I recently got engaged to my fiancé Johnny and we plan to marry in the next couple of years. I have three cats named Boomer, Yacky, and Lil Kitty who were all strays I took off the street. I have one dog named Hunter who I rescued from the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with such great people. I like helping animals in any way I can so I enjoy my job very much.
Valerie Petry
My name is Valerie Petry and I graduated from Morehead State University in 2001 and have been pursuing my career in Veterinary Technology at Twin Maples since then. I have a special interest in canine behavior and have developed a puppy socialization party that occurs about once a month here at Twin Maples. We have a cat, Rascal, a dog, Rita, and our first child is due later this year.
Jill Sweeny
I'm Jill Sweeny and I have been working at Twin Maples for a little over a year now. I attended Miamisburg High School and graduated this past June. I am now attending Sinclair Community College, working at Twin Maples and going to school 5 days a week. I am taking science-oriented classes, and I have planned to pursue a career as a Veterinary Technician, but now I have been rethinking and I am considering going farther in college and becoming a Veterinarian. I just started learning the ropes as a Veterinary Assistant, but I love the atmosphere and all my wonderful co-workers have been very helpful in teaching me.
Kari Tompkins
