About Us
Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital was established by Dr. Warren E. Snead in July, 1970. The original physical structure was a small frame house. The building had been remodeled to consist of a waiting room, a small reception area, two exam rooms, a treatment room, a kennel area with 5 cages, a surgery room, and a bathroom which doubled as the x-ray room. The entire building was approximately 900 square feet in size.
Twin Maples was originally a companion animal practice, serving cats, dogs, and horses. Dr. Snead established this practice with a mission to provide the best quality health care for all patients. The practice grew rapidly and the horse practice was soon one of the largest in the Dayton area.
By 1974, the small animal practice had grown to the extent that a single doctor could no longer manage both the small animal and equine services. Twin Maples limited its practice to small animals. At this time, plans were drawn to build a "state of the art" facility, consisting of a 2400 square foot ground floor and a 1700 square foot basement. The building was completed in November 1975. Our first associate veterinarian was added to the practice the same year.
Twin Maples continued to grow, and in 1980, the facility was remodeled, and the basement was finished for office space. Dr. Craig Clouse joined the practice in 1982, and became a partner in 1985. Twin Maples became a three veterinarian practice in 1983.
Twin Maples' physical facility grew again in 1992 when a 2000 square feet addition was constructed and the interior of the practice was extensively remodeled and updated. The expansion added much needed "elbow room" and helped to keep us "state of the art". Our practice grew to 4 veterinarians in 1993 with our addition of Dr. Dawn Spangler.
In 1994, Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital was honored as a Hill's Pet Foods "Hospital of Excellence". Twin Maples was also a finalist in the Dayton Area Small Business of the Year Award program.
In 1997, Twin Maples sought and received 4 year accreditation as an American Animal Hospital Association Member Hospital. AAHA requires voluntary rigorous evaluation of facilities and procedures on a regular basis. (Click here for more information about AAHA certification)
In 1998 our professional staff grew to 5 veterinarians. Dr. Kate Gardner joined us in June 2000, followed by Dr. Kimberly Burkhardt in August 2000.
In October 2001, we were pleased to welcome Dr. Kay Allyson Deal, Diplomat ACVIM, Internal Medicine, to Twin Maples as our Internal Medicine specialist. Dr. Allyson has helped elevate the level of diagnostic testing and treatment that we can offer our clients, patients, and area referring veterinarians. New services that Dr. Allyson offers includes echocardiography, general ultrasonography, oncology (cancer diagnosis and treatment).
In 2004, we welcomed Dr. Sara Wells and Dr. Corey Griffiths to our practice.
Today, all of our doctors and staff continue to dedicate their efforts to the ongoing goal of providing the finest care for all of our patients and clients.
